Sure they can. But in this case, the CEO has an outstanding proven track record. He has demonstrated excellent vision and has delivered consistently.

At any rate many people want USR to call the merger off so they can stay invested in USR by itself. My question is why would these people want to stay invested in a company that is led by someone they perceive as being "spectacularly stupid".

Only time will tell whether this was a "spectacularly stupid" idea on Casey's part. So far, however, I haven't heard a single argument to convince me that anyone knows what is better for USR than Casey.
