Dave, I'm not sure I agree. I had two recent cases of "precipitous declines". I had PUTs on TYCO when it died in October. I like the stock so I allowed it to be PUT to me and I have been selling CALLs against it each month. I am expecting to be out for a profit by next month.

The second case is LUCENT for which I have Feb PUTs at 65 and which recently tanked to 50. I like this one as well and as we get close to expiration, I'll decide to either take it and sell CALLs or roll it out. I don't find this dangerous or fearful at all..... but, that's my opinion.

Remember the most important factor in using a short PUT strategy.... you must like the underlying stock.
