According to a report from Data Quest and IDC PC sales surged 17% worldwide in the fourth quarter with Compaq selling 4.6 million units and holding a commanding 4% over Dell for the year. Dell did manage to edge Compaq for the first time in the U.S by a fraction. Compaq sales grew 8% in the fourth quarter in comparison to last year, and according to an analyst at Bear Stearns they are expecting big things on Tuesday's earnings report which show Compaq is back on track with their inventory problems.
