Worry about the suits later, let the lawyers fight it out. This company needs all it's focus on the immediate future. I borrow this from the yaahoo board, I think it may be relevant- I know, an oxymoron <g>
The scoop on GSLI & JDSU by: life_wo_lasers 1/23/00 12:58 pm Msg: 529 of 534 You are correct in asuming that GSLI does not sell lasers to JDSU. They sell DWDM optical filters and gratings. Dense Wave Division Multiplexing allows for multiple wave lenghts to be put down a single fiber, thus increasing bandwidth. It is very HOT right now. A company that used to be called Galilaeo Electro Optics recently changed their name to NetOptics. They sell about $10 million of this stuff and their stock flew up to $60.
I think this is a small % of GSLI's overall business but its growing and investors think its hot. GSLI also buys lasers from the former Uniphase part of JDSU. Not enough to warrant a take over as some have suggested. GSLI is way to diversified to for a JDSU take over.
The company after floundering for two years and cleaning up the merger mess is positioned to take advantage of several trends. It has a great biochip scanner group (hot genomics sector (see AFFX, HYSQ, CRA, HGSI), hot DWDM group (see JDSU, NEWP) and rebounding asian chip sector (good for cap equip. co.s AMAT, KLAC). The problem is a lack of focus and domination in one area. But when all cylinders are firing GSLI could go. I think that may happen this year.
If wall street could get over Winston's blunder of several years back, they may come back to the table. I think they will. Just hope insiders don't bail to quickly. There are some heavy hitters that have left the Co. and have some a lot of shares. Some can not be sold below $14. I think they are smart enough to see that this will go into the $20's again if they hold tight.
Luck all. Life_W/O_Lasers (X GSI) |
