To All, IDC and Dataquest have released teasers about how the PC market surged in 1999. So far, all they have talked about are unit sales. In my experience, when something is sold for free, unit sales tend to do well. <g> I am waiting to see if they admit that actual sales, in dollar terms, the only terms that matter, were down. If it's close, they will try to fake it as they did with last year's reported "1% gain." If it isn't close, they may have to admit the obvious. They release the full reports today.

Since they are industry lickspittles, I usually don't pay much attention to their pronouncements. But, as they are both touting the unit number to high heaven, I want to see how they spin the dollars.

BTW, Dataquest is only predicting 13% up pc sales this year. IDC is at 18%. If DQ is right, it is not just nuclear winter for the boxmakers, it is nuclear permafrost.
