One interesting point...ISO9000 rating. Having experienced this approval process first-hand helps me understand just how distracted and interrupted employees can get.

The goal is for quality purposes w/ international recognition, and the method is to document every teeny/tiny thing everyone does in the form of a departmental 'procedure' (which is written in doublespeak so no one in their right mind could actually use it as a tool), and periodically pass ISO audit inspections to assess whether or not those 'procedures' are being followed.

While the intentions are good, for a fledgling co. the time/energy spent is a huge drain on resources. Well established co's have big dips in productivity w/ a high 'frustration level' while trying to implement the standards ISO expects. What does it do to a small co. like Isolyzer? The rewards will be great someday....but today, the costs are greater than the reward.

Comments?

PS My company got its certification "conditionally"...meaning the departments who screwed up had a certain amount of time to clean up their act. Meanwhile, other depts got careless, so when the next inspection came, the certification was yanked. By the time we tried to go for it again, the ISO standards had been revised, so we were almost back to square one. So... while all this BS is happening, who is carrying on the business???
