"Every semiconductor on allocation" says STMicroelectronics

Like everybody else, STMicroelectronics has been caught out by the speed and extent of the semiconductor market upturn.
Asked which of his products were on allocation, ST CEO Pasquale Pistorio replied: "The question should be 'Do you have any products that are not on allocation' and the answer is 'No'. The demand is exceeding our ability to supply. We are giving priority to our strategic partners and our top 30 customers."
Pistorio added: "It's the most explosive demand I have seen in my career."
However, he believes, ST is in a better position than most. "We have emerged from the recession in a position of strength because of our investment in the downturn," added Pistorio, "we started to commit major capital expenditures in April/May last year. The programme is going well, but with some anxiety, because we are falling behind demand. We have more capacity than our competitors but not enough to respond to market demand. "
ST is looking for increased capacity from four wafer fabs. "We are ramping, as fast as we can, the fabs at Agrate and Rousset - our target is to reach 1,000 wafers a week at each fab by the end of Q2," said Pistorio.
