Governor Gilmore of Virginia Applauds PRIMUS Telecommunications for Winning Washington Technology Magazine's 'Fast 50 Award'
McLEAN, Va., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- PRIMUS Telecommunications Group, Incorporated (Nasdaq: PRTL), a facilities-based global telecommunications company offering a portfolio of bundled Internet, data and voice services, has been named the Washington, DC area's fastest growing technology company over the last five years by Washington Technology Magazine. PRIMUS's achievement in this annual survey of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the greater Washington, DC area has been recognized by the Governor of Virginia as well.

This is an especially significant award because PRIMUS maintains its corporate headquarters in Northern Virginia, which has been repeatedly dubbed "the Internet capital of the world" where many of the leading global Internet companies reside. Governor James Gilmore of Virginia has issued a challenge to the entire technology world, and PRIMUS is among the companies rising to the call. "I want to challenge every member of Virginia and the nation's high-tech community to step forward and make the commitment to close the Digital Divide," said Governor Gilmore. "The Internet is too promising in too many ways for anyone to be left behind, and with new partnerships between business and government, we can work to ensure that all Americans as well as our global neighbors reap the fruits of this remarkable new medium. By the example PRIMUS and the other corporations have set, we are able to see just how successful global companies can be with their roots in the Commonwealth of Virginia."

"This is an exciting award for us because it recognizes PRIMUS's extraordinary growth rate during the last five years, particularly considering the other leading Internet and data companies with which we competed," said K. Paul Singh, PRIMUS's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "PRIMUS believes that by winning this award and working with the Commonwealth of Virginia, we are on the leading edge of partnering creatively with business, technology and government. We applaud Governor Gilmore and the Commonwealth of Virginia for being the first state to have a Secretary of Technology, which supports the cause to make the information superhighway a reality for everyone."

Washington Technology Magazine's Fast 50 Awards issue is available January 24, 2000.
