Richard,

Thank you for bringing that story to this thread.

"The nation's utility companies have access rights to every home and business in their coverage area as well as a great deal of unused fiber connections already in place -- giving them a huge advantage over rivals in the network-provision market. The savings to consumers from a single point of delivery may also be substantial. According to the report, the initial charge for a 10 Mb connection to the home will be $13.95 per month.

There is only one thing missing in this piece. Can anyone guess what that one thing is?

Granted, One Billion Dollars is only seed money compared to what it will take to fiberize every parcel of real estate in this country, i.e., every home and business structure. And this story is only a prelude to the vindication of all of the ranting by myself and AHhaha here over the past two years. But it marks at least a hint of a beginning of "breaking away" from the status quo. And it's not too late for home to lead kind of thing. What will the MSOs' and ILECs' reactions to this report be?

Regards, Frank Coluccio
