Hi Dan,

Altho this is not my thread (the person who started it seems to have disappeared), in my book, anything options related is fair game here.
[
what we need is a place to talk options in general.
perhaps we should move over to the 'Advanced Option Strategies' thread. but that's not all that appropriate either.
(but it would pop that thread onto the hotlist for sure :-)
]

I've been trying to quit writing CC's. I primarily only do it in my IRA now, where I can't (w/ current broker) buy options.
NP's are superior to CC's in that you have one position to deal with, but overall each has it's merit. You can do things w/ CC's that you can't w/ NP and vice-versa.

Long options can be appropriate in certain circumstances. I don't restrict myself to any one strategy. And there are certain stocks which long options work on better than others. Look at what wouldve happened if last year at this time you bot AMZN long 1yr LEAPS and you held to expiration this last Fri. They wouldve expired worthless. AMZN (and DELL) essentially are at the same price from a year ago. TA or FA or whatever is most important... then selection of strategy to implement.

Last year this time, I was looking at PSFT as a sure double candidate. Didn't happen. I decided I had better opportunities elsewhere and good thing (altho I did play it for a few here and there)... it wouldve been a waste of tying up cash in shares or worthless contracts.

Maybe taxman's strategy works because he seems to play 'gorilla' stocks. I don't know... I've just started to look into it.
Maybe a reason it works is because if you buy enough calls on the a basket of 'right' stocks, several are bound to stick... 5% or 10% big winners can cover up for the rest which are losers.
It certainly is intriguing.
