Thank you, A. Wayne, both for your sharing your real-world experience with the thread so that I do not sound like a credulous dingbat and for your refocussing on the critical issues.

I have seen the same thing at other companies, so I am willing to give Legato's management the benefit of the doubt. Steve Wise is not a stupid person and he has seen other software companies that were cooking the books go down in flames. (Informix comes to mind.) He would not be likely to put himself into so vulnerable a position knowingly, IMO.

I am still working on the growth rate off the new base and shall post it and estimates when I feel some sense of clarity. Unlike a "sell-side" analyst on Wall Street, I do not have to come up with something, anything, immediately; for this thread I can give it some thought and I don't expect the stock to get away from us in the near term. I suspect that between us, Chuzz and I can post some quality information for determining growth rates, cash flows, and target P/Es. This is a bad week in terms of earnings reports, but I am working on it.
