FWIW, the analyst that follows defense stocks for Value Line wrote that he doesn't think LMT's dividend can be relied on in future. I agree that these companies are going to be around for the long haul - but the defense budget is shrinking. Latest Defense News has an interview with Maj. Gen. Claude Bolton, Program Executive Officer for U.S. Air Force Fighter and Bomber programs, who says the budget for defense will go down to about 2 percent of GDP, which is the average for non-war years. One program that he specifically stated as having a shortfall of $500 million is the F-22, which is being developed jointly by Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, and the US Air Force.

So my thought is that these are stocks to buy and put the certificates in the safe deposit and forget - and I am not sure they represent the biggest bang for the buck, but I am thinking about it.
