With all of the new companies looking for promising internet start ups, I suppose we may eventually run out of new companies to IPO <G>. I saw a kid running a lemonade stand down the block. I wonder if he'd be interested in going public before he gets to sixth grade <G>...

Brokerages Offer More Research On Internet Firms

TOKYO (Nikkei)--An increasing number of securities houses are hiring new analysts and taking other steps to broaden their coverage of companies involved with the Internet. Industry observers claim the price volatility accompanying such issues puts pressure on brokerages to turn out reports of particularly high quality.

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Japan Ltd. recently brought in two new analysts with experience researching U.S. Internet firms. The pair will be expected to report on Softbank Corp. (9984), Yahoo Japan Corp. (4689) and 18 other listed companies. They will also keep an eye out for concerns likely to go public on one of Japan's exchanges for start-ups.

"Our team will work with counterparts in the U.S. headquarters and analysts specializing in financial and retail markets at the Tokyo branch to make sure they provide investors with solid reports," a Morgan Stanley executive said.

Nikko Salomon Smith Barney Ltd. is building a similar team and recently hired two analysts away from rival brokerages. They will likely hunt for promising young companies which can eventually be taken public.
