BN Former Penny-Stock King Has $5 Mln Lien Placed on Home, AP Says Jan 2 2000 16:58
Englewood, Colorado, Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Meyer Blinder, the former penny-stock king, had a $5 million tax lien placed on his home in Englewood, Colorado, the Associated Press reported. The lien, filed by the Internal Revenue Service, claims Blinder owes taxes from 1982, 1989, 1990 and 1991. Blinder, who built Denver-based penny brokerage firm Blinder Robinson & Co. into an 1,800-broker empire before its collapse in 1990, was convicted in 1992 of racketeering, money laundering and securities fraud and served 40 months in federal prison, the AP said. The IRS last week unveiled a simplified procedure under which taxpayers can pay off back taxes and interest through fixed monthly payments.
