This is definitely a better Duke team, right now, than when they played those first two games. I dont know if the outcome would be different,or not, but Duke's freshman, are coming into there own now, would be interesting.
You are right on, when you mention that Carolina team of 1994. That was the team with the core of players back from the Championship team, the year prior (Montross and company), and they were trying to blend in Stackhouse, Wallace, and McInnis into the mix, and there definitely was a rift, between the two. I am still scratching my head, trying to figure how Carolina didnt win a championship with that team that started Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins, Kenny Smith, and Brad Daugherty. I think that was 1983-84.
But that is the beauty of College Basketball. As Dick Vitale so aptly puts it, "Its one and done in the NCAA tournament". In an NBA format, Duke probably would have handled UConn, no problem, best of seven. And I feel certain, UNC, with Jordan and company, would have taken out that Indiana team with Steve Alford, that knocked them out. I guess its like the old football saying, "On any given Sunday".... |
