InfoCast Among Select Group of ASPs in Sun's StarPortal(TM) Early Access Program
Web-Based Office Productivity Solution an Important Part of ASP's E-Enabling Strategy TORONTO, Jan. 25 /CNW/ -- INFOCAST CORPORATION (OTC Bulletin Board: IFCC), the leading e-Enabling Application Service Provider (ASP), today announced it is among the world's first ASPs to participate in the Early Access program for Sun Microsystems' (Nasdaq: SUNW) StarPortal(TM) software initiative, a next-generation, Web-based office productivity solution. "InfoCast will be one of a select group of industry leaders to assist us in bringing this suite of applications to market," said Marco Boerries, vice president and general manager, Webtop and Application Software, Sun Microsystems. "We are pleased to offer StarPortal software to companies delivering a new model of computing. The Early Access program will make it easier for ASPs to make available office productivity tools as part of their own offerings in the new service-driven network." A Sun-authorized ASP, InfoCast will host the web-based StarPortal software, based on Sun's already available StarOffice Suite. This set of applications includes a word processor, presentation software, spreadsheet package, and other office productivity tools. The Early Access program will allow InfoCast to field-test the capabilities of StarPortal, which forms an important part of its strategy as an e-Enabling ASP. "Sun's StarPortal offers our customers a full-featured, ASP-ready office productivity suite, extending the value of InfoCast's infrastructure-on-demand for customer care," says Jim Leech, InfoCast's president and CEO. InfoCast e-Enables fast-growing companies by offering a complete call center infrastructure -- including voice-over-data, switching, interactive voice recognition, and automatic call distribution -- on a pay-per-use basis, an attractive alternative to expensive, traditional call center hardware and software. The company also allows enterprises to train customer care agents through its e-Learning solution, while its telework solution provides a full support infrastructure for agents working from their homes or in remote locations. "The Early Access program allows InfoCast to further demonstrate the effectiveness of remote access applications running on our Sun server-based ASP architecture," Leech adds. "Working together, Sun and InfoCast will ensure that the StarPortal software is an effective and reliable network service."
