The Japanese Government's tinkering with the capital gains tax system is typical of the problem generated by entrenched bureaucracies. In their zeal to increase taxes while cutting off loopholes, they create a monster tax code like the IRS here in the US. People wind up spending more time and money trying to minimize taxes than they do on running businesses and creating new ventures. I suspect that the rise of these bureaucracies is what eventually leads to the collapse of entire societies.

As for running out of new internet companies, I just meant that there will be so many venture capital companies competing to find the new small company to IPO that we may eventually wind up with more VC Companies than IPOs to offer. In this case, the quality of the IPOs will clearly suffer <G>. (My example of the lemonade stand run by a fifth grader.)

Seriously, I think the "Brand Name" quality that Softbank brings will still attract the quality small companies into the Softbank fold. This Brand Name is still more visible in Japan than here in the US and that is one sidelight to the US listing for a Softbank stock issue of some sort. Even there, it seems that tax issues are a serious impediment to this eventual US listing for a Softbank trading vehicle whether it is an ADR or a directly traded stock.
