Eric, I don't believe that PLUG's unit emits any NOx. When calculating the overall effect on the environment, line losses need to also be taken into account. I think the CO emissions problem will disappear in PLug's unit. Does the gas turbine, that you mention, have conversion efficiencies of 38%? I would be surprised. Can you buy a unit for your house?

The Plug Power unit is not meant to replace most existing systems, it is meant to give you the option of switching. I think that they will sell plenty of units in the rural market where the cost of running traditional power lines is $25,000 per mile. Even where power is available, there are plenty of people spending 200K and higher on building houses. I don't think that they will balk at spending 10K for the security of virtually uninterruptable power at lower cost per month than the electric utility. I just finished a 77 home gated community where several of the buyers put carpet in their garages. There will be plenty of buyers out there.
