( BW)(NY-E-DATA)(EDTA) E-data Shareholders Elect Insurgent Board of Directors

Business Editors

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2000--At its first annual meeting in four years held here today,
shareholders of E-data Corporation (Pink Sheets: EDTA) elected a completely new board of directors by better
than a two-to-one margin. The new directors, who were running as an insurgent slate, include Scott Hillstrom,
elected chairman of the board; Robert Slater; Charles Hart; Robert Spira and Tibor Tallos.
Hillstrom, Slater and Tallos are lawyer-entrepreneurs with broad experience in developing and managing
technology companies. Hart is former CEO of Micronics Corp. and a Silicon Valley veteran of hi-tech ventures.
Spira is an investment banker active in the development and financing of technology companies.
E-data Corporation, formerly known as Interactive Gift Express, holds basic patents in e-commerce principally
involving the downloading of information via the Internet to a point of sale. E-data has licensed its patents to a
number of companies and is presently appealing a district court ruling narrowing the scope of its U.S. patent.
Newly elected chairman Scott Hillstrom stated, "This is the dawn of a new era for E-data. For the past several
years, the company has been vigorously defending its patent position as the world of e-commerce has exploded
around it. New board members look forward to bringing new energy and new opportunities for exploiting E-data's
unique patents. We look forward to building on prior management efforts and working constructively with them
to advance E-data in the e-commerce world and in the investment community."
