FBR offers a way to play the allegedly sizzling WebMethods IPO coming up around Feb 7, but I have seen no discussion of this angle anywhere on either of SI's active FBR boards.

According to WebMethods' SEC Filing S-1/a (24 Jan 2000, Page 60), FBR Technology Venture Partners is an 8.9% owner of WebMethods.

Discussion on the RB FBR board (my source for this insight) suggests, but does not prove, that this makes FBR the largest publicly-traded stakeholder in WebMethods -- and apparently a better play than the more widely-touted THCG, which does not appear on the S-1/A list and therefore may hold less than 5% of the shares.

Morgan Stanley is WebMethods' lead underwriter, and, FWIW, my Morgan Stanley broker was more secretive than usual about this particular IPO -- although he grudgingly acknowledged its existence after I pointed out that it was public knowledge. (He also told me not to count on an allocation.... Hence, IN FBR AT 7-9/16!)

warm regards
