There can be no such rule. It is a contract between you and your broker that has been breached. You said Sell by end of day. They didn't. They said it cancelled.

Now the next day they say they executed it. That is an unauthorized transaction if it executed today. You have acted in good faith on their representations to you that the order didn't execute. Now they say it executed today? Something is way wrong with that.

Even if they say they executed yesterday, but didn't give you confirmation until today, they have still given you a confirmation of an execution as of yesterday. Regardless of whether it was a delay in their system, they are in error as they have made a false representation to you that it did not execute. It's one or the other and either way they are wrong.

Let's get practical though, the .0002 difference if I am reading it right may not be much of a cause for spending much energy. But I would definitely report the guy if you have his name. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Escalate it. Because if it isn't worth your fighting over it think how much less worth it for them it is to fight over.
