Cryopakø Corporation's New Brand Symbol Wins AIGA Prisma Award

What's in a brand? Everything, according to Jay Wilson, president of Real World Marketing of Scottsdale, AZ, the company behind the development of the new brand identity for Cryopakø Corporation. And to prove it, his company, along with Campbell, Fisher, Ditko Design of Phoenix, has taken home a Bronze award in the 1999 American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) Prisma Awards trademark category.

"The brand identity is the first association people have with a product, and the lasting impression they take away," Wilson said. "It's crucial to develop a symbol that will be identified with its message and communicates exactly what the company stands for. We put a lot of work into the cryopakø brand and we believe it's right on target. This award validates our belief in what we've created. It's the icing on the cake."

In working with CFD, Wilson and his partners started with the important discipline of the brand strategy development process -- outlining exactly what the cryopakø product does, and what that means to its customers. cryopakø's patented design consists of sheets of non-toxic liquid-filled laminate pouches that can be used in a diverse range of applications. It keeps perishable items chilled to a specific temperature longer and more efficiently than any other product on the market. This product benefit led the Real World team to search for something that communicates that attribute simply and clearly. "Our research turned up the fact that the scientific symbol for "constant" is the lower case letter k," said Dave Mills, executive vice president/brand strategist of Real World. "We looked at the product name and realized that the 'k' at the end presented us with several opportunities. Since the letter k represents a constant, we knew that the kø symbol would be an excellent way to symbolize constant temperature. It just felt like a natural."

Another natural fit is Real World Marketing's 21st Century business approach.
