Reality check, Clark ;-)

But at this point most major markets outside of Europe (Japan, China, Korea, US, South America, ...) has or will soon have a large CDMAOne contingent that considers the natural upgrade to 3g to be CDMA-2000.

You conceded Western Europe. Congratulations. Can we be more honest about NTT DoCoMo's dominant position in Japan and the 2001 WCDMA rollout in Japan, Clark? Never mind the actual demand for mobile wireless data, what is this systematic denial and obfuscation of reality going on all over SI coming from Qualcommers? If the point is to wear down people with half-truths, then you know that it's not going to happen.

All one has to do with a cute Qualcommism is use a simple litmus test:

The immutable trend is increased global teledensity. In order to make that happen wireless and wireline manufacturers and carriers need economies of scale AND deregulation. Since the USA is obviously the reference model for global telecom deregulation, where are the superior economies of scale a-forming? Unit cost is a clue.

We're all grown-ups with diversified portfolios here. I don't think anybody will buy the inartful whoring of Qualcomm as an investment at these price levels just on the basis on any technology (including HDR) when the easily verifiable fact is that the relationship between manufacturers and carriers is a symbiotic one.

Is that really so hard to understand?
