Up, down, up. This is life on the stockpicking rollercoaster. Portfolio was up 2.22% today. Dow up 0.20%, NASDAQ up 1.74%, and S&P500 up 0.58%. Buy and hold seems to be a successful strategy lately vs. market timing.
ORCL - up 4.15%. Another partnership and this involves SUNW and Pricewaterhousecooper to make a one stop shop for an internet platform for a business. I was speaking with another successful stockpicker and their club was going to buy ORCL this month.
CNSW - up 5.12%. Momentum runup before tommorrow's earnings. This feeding frenzy will cause it to drop to $12-13 if it only meets estimates. Blowout earnings have to beat it by 4 cents nowdays. CNSW is tight lipped, analysts are quiet so everyone waiting for the news. Shorts taking a beating on this one.
NSIL - up 7.14%. Bounce after consecutive days of selling off. I wouldn't mind it sitting here for a couple weeks to consolidate.
METHA - up 4.26%. Been noticing it is tracking JDSU in price movement, but probably a concidence. Optos plays getting second wind after a beating in the last few weeks. No long term debt, 35M in cash.
CYTC - up 7.49%. Hot biotech sector pushing up this and others.
COVD - up 4.24%. 62% Q2Q rev growth, losses well below last year's level. Company is leading DSL charge and this quarter was great. Can you say gapup tomorrow?
ONDS - up 7.02%. Alta Vista as a customer PR announcement got many player's attention that is one may be an industry leader.
SCLN - up 4.47%. Broke the magic $10 level. Some speculating that institutions are accumulating. I figure running up with other biotechs.
SYCD - up 6.36%. More key personnel added. This is always a sign of strength that people would leave another to join a startup company.
MPPP - up 6.44%. $70 target by analyst got shorts covering. No earnings news today. Maybe tomorrow. Think that analysts know the revenues? Will trade heavy tomorrow.
LU - up 4.08%. Strong push by S&P in their 1/19/00 Outlook magazine. Got highest five star rating. Second analyst to back LU after H&Q. "Lucent is a Strong Buy" says it all.
Did some DD via PM on QNTS, and TIVO. Both not recommended. TIVO has small revs and huge losses. QNTS chart shows steady long term selloff. IMAN had a good quarter, and Q@Q rev is 2.8 to 3.3 to 3.5 to 5.8M-Dec99. Still putting up net losses for those quarters and this is what is making it flatline. Chart bearish now on the MACD.
Brooks Automation (BRKS) is getting my attention. 1/21/00 they announced revenues will exceed expectation. Stock in last 5 days has moved from $42 to $55 to $50.875. Q2Q revs are very good. 19.8M to 23.3 to 26.4 to 34.4 Sep99. Four consecutive quarters of positive EPS growth also. Valueline gives it a 3 for performance which is disappointing, but written before the 1/21 PR. S&P upped it from 3stars to 4stars citing rapid revenue growth. 10 positive days to 2 negative in the last 12. Ran from $30 then to $50 now so a bit pricey. Was thinking of it on Dec., but bought CYTC so no regrets. May be a good one if it dips to $40. This is producer of chip-factory automation software and hardware.
