It depends on the vehicles traded and their volatility. Futures are frequently too volatile to trade using end of day data, most stocks are just fine using daily data.

I personally use daily charts to get general support/resistance and use tick charts to put in the actual buy/sells. But since my data is anecdotal, it isn't really pertinent.

The question you are asking could be asked of daytrading in general. For some trading vehicles, daytrading is the way to go, others it is much nicer to just buy and hold. Same for point and figure charting in different time frames.
