Martin,

You chide people for not offering technically sound opinions, and then you don't offer up anything better yourself. Trashing NT without giving technical arguments to back it up is no better that the marketing hype you accuse Microsoft of doing.

>> NT's file systems is a Juke..

Why? Performance, scalability, what?

>> The Sceduler is even a worse joke..

The job scheduler application that comes with NT? The equivalent of Cron in UNIX? I am not even sure what you are talking about.

>> The kernel and its multi threading is an insult..

Yes they have some scalability problems, but nothing that cannot be solved. The algorithms for single/dual processor vs large scale (ie.64 processors) are different. I expect that a new version of NT will be added to the Windows linup that will focus on scalability, and large memory architectures. Is there something besides scalability that is an issue?

>> NT is much earsier to hack than UNIX..Microsoft claims C2 security >> with NT in a non networked form..(go figure)

You don't just get to claim C2, there is a certification process involved.

>>IT is not "OPEN"..to those people who would like to play with >>words...OPEN means you can modify the source of the operating >>system and own it ...NOT WITH MICROSOFT..(this is for hardware >>vendors..not you)

I assume you are referring to LINUX here. I don't think you can get at the source for Solaris, AIX, OSF, HP/UX. Are they not OPEN now?

SMP boxes often ship with machine a specific HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). Each new processor platform has a HAL. NT lets you change what needs to be changed, and keeps the rest unchanged to protect different OS components from screwing each other up. Layered Architecture, its a major benefit of NT, not a liability.

I hope you will stay on the thread and expand on some of your points.
