As for Bob, too bad he doesn't realize that you or me or anyone could buy an IBM microdrive, from Cameraworld for instance cameraworld.com
and build our own mp3 player and never pay Edig a penny. The point that apparently sailed over Bob's head was that many companies already had prototype players based on the microdrive and they don't need the EDIG OS to do it, they just whip their own out. Hell it's just another IDE drive, you can probably find the code to do it for free on the net.
I haven't kept up that close but the rub on the microdrive when it was first announced way back when was that it was a real power hog and would eat batteries like mad. Still per MB it's way cheaper than compact flash, though still too expensive for a portable mp3 player.
