Pepsi to set up plant in Bangalore

OUR BUREAU

BANGALORE, April 24: In a bid to enhance its presence in the
country, Pepsi is setting up a plant in the city by the end of the
current financial year.

While land has been purchased in the outskirts of the city,
international bids have been floated for its construction and
equipment will be sourced from Italy and Germany.

Revealing this, executive vice president (marketing) Pepsico India
Holding Pvt Ltd Anchal Agrawal said that the plant will be set up
at a cost of Rs 35 crore and have an initial capacity of 600 bottles
per minute.

Agrawal was in the city to launch the company's PET range. The
three soft drinks will now be available in the city in PET bottles.
He was hopeful that the PET range will capture 25 per cent of the
company's sales in the city. The range has been launched in
Bangalore after its launch in Delhi and Mumbai last summer and in
Chennai recently.

Answering queries about the hazards of soft drinks stored in PET
bottles, Agrawal said that several studies had revealed the safety
of these bottles. The chemical composition of drinks stored in
these PET bottles will not be altered in any way.

The range will be available in 1.5 litre bottles and is priced at Rs
38 per bottle.

Pepsi sources its bottles through the Chennai-based Futura
Polymers which is a group company. According to Agrawal, there
is a cost advantage to the company since most of Pepsi's
competitors source their bottles from foreign manufacturers.
