OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 2000--Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CORL)(TSE:COR.)) is extremely encouraged by the strong reviews its Corel(r) LINUX(r) OS and applications are receiving from the world's press and analysts.
"The Linux client operating market is not currently noted for the high dollar volume that client operating systems produce," said Al Gillen, research manager, server infrastructure software for International Data Corporation, a leading research and analyst firm.
"Corel's US $3.2 million in Linux operating system sales during the short time it was on the market in 1999 is a stunning beginning for the company in the fast-growing Linux market," said Mr. Gillen. "This level of revenue places the company in the first tier of Linux client operating environment vendors."
In addition to Corel, IDC's list of Tier 1 Linux vendors include: Red Hat (NASDAQ:RHAT), Caldera, Turbo Linux and SuSE.
"This is a tremendous validation of our efforts to transform Corel into a major Linux player," said Corel Corporation president and CEO Dr. Michael Cowpland. "There should be no doubt in anybody's mind that Corel has what it takes to deliver a high-quality Linux OS and Linux applications to the PC market."
