John,
Reuters is stuck on the 56% drop like a broker record. Even on the Compaq good news.

XRX in the teens is a bottom fisherman's dream. I will probably join you if that happens and I have some dry powder.

(REUTERS) Compaq steals Toshiba's European laptop lead

LONDON, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp's <CPQ.N>
Compaq brands overtook long-term leader Toshiba <6502.T> in
European laptop computer sales in the fourth quarter of 1999,
research group Context said on Wednesday.
Marie-Christine Pygott, senior Context analyst, said the
world's largest computer maker, which on Tuesday reported a 56
percent fall in its fourth-quarter profit, had nosed ahead of
the Japanese group for the first time she had seen.
Compaq's unit sales of portable computers in the period
totalled 236,289 against Toshiba's 222,711, Pygott told Reuters
by telephone. Context's measurements of the main brands showed
IBM <IBM.N> coming third in the segment, she added.
Pygott said Compaq also retained a clear lead in the
European PC server market -- a key area to watch as more
companies get ready for e-business.
IBM and Hewlett-Packard <HWP.N> came in second and third,
with Fujitsu-Siemens <6702.T> <SIEGn.DE> fourth and challenger
Dell <DELL.O> moving up fast into fifth position.
"Dell is threatening them," Pygott said.
In desktop PCs NEC CI <6701.T> -- formerly Packard Bell --
took the number one slot with Fujitsu-Siemens jumping into
second place, leaving Compaq in third.
But Compaq, which Context last week said had retained an
overall number one slot in the European computer market -- led
both other categories of commercial desktops and PC
workstations, Pygott said.
The European market for PC unit sales, including laptops, is
likely to grow by 17-20 percent this year, Context predicts.
