no,George, i am astonished to read that Nortels OC-192 opticals are bought from Lucent. could you tell me your source? you mean lu sat there selling nortel the rope with which to hang lu's long-haul optical business. for the 2 years that nortel has been building 90% of the long-haul high speed networks mr mcginn couldn't call up the heads of wcom and t, and say, "Hey, we MAKE the stuff you're buying from nortel. why not let us install it for you, and you'll save the mark-up we charge nortel for the optics." no, that beggars my imagination! i know from your posts that you know a helluva lot more than i do about this space, so i eagerly hope you will tell me how you know this. I also note that you wrote "the opticals used" implying all the ones nt uses for OC-192 come from lu. perhaps that was just quick writing. but it would mean that nt has no manufacturing capability in OC-192 opticals, and no other source but lucent. it would mean that nt is entirely at lucent's mercy. for example, lu could say legitimately, "sorry we have to cease shipping these opticals for a while because we are ramping up for our own customers."
