GAPP has nuthin to do with when revenue is realized - that's each companies own policy.

Puh-leeze! Let's illustrate with an extreme example: On Dec 31st Dell closes a deal with GE for $10million of computing equipment spread over the next three years. So they can book the entire $10million order on Dec 31st? Ummmm...nope! Not even if GE pays for the whole thing up front!

GAAP says revenue cannot be recognized until it is earned. In the case of physical goods, that's when the goods are shipped, and not until then.
