To all,
Diamonds found in Alberta kimberlites Pure Gold Resources Inc PUG Shares issued 88,106,667 Apr 24 close $0.33 Fri 25 Apr 97 News Release See Ashton Mining of Canada Inc (ACA) News Release Mr John Auston reports The first analytical results from the Buffalo Hills kimberlites to date indicate generally favourable mantle chemistry for diamonds and preliminary results of caustic dissolution analyses show that one of the three pipes tested so far has a significant content of micro-diamonds and macro-diamonds. Geochemical analyses of indicator minerals in kimberlite from pipes K2, K4 and K14 have confirmed the presence of G10 pyrope garnets and abundant chromites whose chromium and aluminum chemistry plots in the diamond inclusion field. These data confirm broadly favourable conditions for the presence of diamonds. The first micro-diamond analyses of kimberlites K2, K4 and K14 have recently been received from the company's laboratory in Perth, Australia. Results confirm that each of these pipes is diamondiferous. Kimberlites K2 and K4 returned low diamond counts while kimberlite K14 returned significant numbers of both micro-diamonds and macro-diamonds. The results from K14 have been confirmed by analysis at the company's own laboratories in North Vancouver, using the recently expanded micro-diamond processing facility. Detailed below are the results of the diamond analysis:
Kimberlite No. -------------- Inter- Sample NO. OF STONES Hole val Weight Micro Macro(x) No. (m) (kg) (<0.5mm) (>0.5mm) ---- -------- ------ -------- --------
K2 bulk from trench sample 90.7 1 -
K4A 4A-1 49-62 49.4 1 -
K4A 4A-1 105-119 49.8 - -
K14 14-1 47-59 50.6 39 1
K14 14-1 72-85 51.0 53 8
K14(xx) 14-1 168-191 50.9 47 2
x Macro-diamonds are individual grains with one dimension equal to or greater than 0.5 mm. xx Analysed in the company's North Vancouver laboratory; all others analysed in the company's Perth laboratory. Micro-diamond analyses alone do not provide sufficient information to assess the commercial diamond potential. The results from these initial small samples are encouraging, however, and indicate that additional testing of these pipes, including mini-bulk testing, is warranted. Results of the laboratory analyses of the remaining eight kimberlite pipes will be provided as they become available over the coming weeks. Ashton Mining and Pure Gold Resources have an option agreement with Alberta Energy Company whereby Pure Gold and Ashton have the right to earn interests of 15% and 42.5% respectively in the Buffalo Hills property. Total landholdings, including option and joint venture lands, comprise 26.8 million acres in north central Alberta. Ashton is operator of the related exploration programs. Ashton is 62%-owned by Ashton Mining Ltd of Australia. (c) Copyright 1997 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com |
