NHC SIGNS CONTRACT INITIALLY WORTH $20 MILLION WITH MAJOR CLEC

VCCS(TM) technology positions NHC as a significant player in the DSL
market

MONTREAL, Jan. 26 /CNW/ - NHC Communications Inc. (TSE: NHC) announced
today that it has been awarded one of its most important contracts ever by one
of the top ten Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) in the USA. The
contract is estimated at an initial worth of $20 MILLION OVER TWO YEARS and
validates NHC's technology as the best solution to address CLEC needs in terms
of testing and deploying digital subscriber lines (DSL).
The contract was concluded after successful hands-on testing of the
equipment last December. NHC's VCCS(TM) (Virtual Cross-Connect System)
solutions will now be deployed into 250 collocation sites over the next two
years. Moreover, this contract requires NHC to plan for a substantially
larger number of units as part of their actual business strategy.
``NHC's VCCS(TM) solution was the best suited to automate test access and
remote cross-connects and its true non-blocking any-to-any capability met the
dynamic requirements at the collocation sites where space is limited,' said
Mr. Sylvain Abitbol, CEO and President of NHC.
For Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) and CLECs, the key to
delivering services profitably lies with the adoption of a remotely managed
highly flexible Test Access and Deployment solution. NHC's VCCS(TM) technology
is actually THE BEST SOLUTION AVAILABLE on the market that enables ILECs and
CLECs to deploy and test instantly and remotely several hundred digital lines
to new subscribers.
Moreover, VCCS is a Test Access and Deployment solution that integrates
with third party DSLAM and DSL test system vendors. ``This is clearly the tip
of the iceberg for us; DSL and high speed Internet services are just beginning
to make their way into mainstream markets, which makes this an exciting wave
to ride,' said Mr. Peter Benisti, Vice President of Sales of NHC.
Worldwide DSL growth is estimated at 8.5 million lines by 2003 and, in
the US alone, growth will surpass 4 million lines. ``Our efforts during the
last 12 months have positioned NHC in all its functions to take full advantage
of the increasing demand for high speed Internet access over DSL. Having
anticipated the CLECs' needs and by developing our solution around all the
necessary requirements, NHC can now take advantage of this exploding
marketplace,' said Mr. Abitbol.
