Actually I think the timing of their forecast is very interesting. These are the guys who first (1996) forecast a $600 bil fix for the Y2K bug. The market caught the fever and when all is said and done, companies spent even more than that amount. That kept them in biz for about 4 years. Now that the Y2K fix is over, most Y2K consulting companies are trying to transform in to e-commerce solutions. Gartner group can try to stay ahead of the curve and squeeze some bucks on this front. This may be a calculated ploy by their management. Except that it has the least chance of being succesful.
