Expectations about growth rates is certainly one factor. But people buy and sell stocks for many and various reasons that have nothing whatsoever to do with growth rates.

I think that trying to figure out investor expectations is like trying to figure out why people vote for politicians. Voter expectations may be more important than a politician's particular stand on any of the issues.

Likewise, with stocks, investor expectations across a wide spectrum of issues may influence price action more than merely the technical or financial fine points. However, for some individuals, perhaps it's only the technical and financial fine points that matter.
