Demand for the Canine Super-Sleuth Better than Anticipated
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Equity Consumer Products, a division of Equity Marketing, Inc. (Nasdaq: EMAK), announced today that its inventory of 1999 "Scooby Doo" toys will be completely sold to retailers by next week. "Scooby-Doo is our success story this year," said John Weems, Equity's Senior Vice President, Consumer Products. "Every item sold beyond our expectations. The last of our 1999 units are on the way to retail stores for the holiday season." Equity's Scooby-Doo line includes plush and action figures based on the chicken-hearted Great Dane, one of the most popular animated characters on television. Scooby-Doo, which was first introduced 30 years ago as a Saturday morning television cartoon series, is now attracting a new generation of fans through the Cartoon Network and video sales. Scooby's popularity doesn't seem to be waning, added Mr. Weems. "We are already experiencing a strong demand from retailers for the expanded Scooby line that we plan to introduce next year," he said. "Our success with Scooby illustrates the results we are able to achieve with Equity's new consumer products strategy, which concentrates on distinctive brands the company owns or classic licenses." |
