from briefing.com : After the close, Dell Computer (DELL 40 3/8 -1 3/4) warned that it expects Q4 earnings to come in at about $0.15 a share (excluding gains); based on a First Call survey of 29 analysts, company was projected to earn $0.21 for the qtr; said an inconsistent flow of key semiconductor components cost it $300 mln insales and that $500 mln was lost due to a slower-than-expected rebound in sales to corporate and institutional customers related to the Y2K rollover.. Expects qtrly. revenue to be $6.7 bln (estimates were for $7.5 bln)... For the full year, Dell expects to report revenue of more than $25 billion, which would be an increase of 38 percent over the prior year... CFO also said appropriate financial goals for Dell in the new fiscal year would be annual revenue growth in the low 30-percent range, with net margins in the low to mid 7-percent range... These lowered expectations were offsetting contentions that this is a temporary issue and that Dell is still growing at a rate well-above its peers... Shares of DELL were down 3 7/8 in after hours at last check.... Most box-builders trading lower in sympathy.

EMC Corp (EMC 113 1/16 -6 15/16): reported Q4 operating earnings of $0.34, beating the First Call mean by three cents and well ahead of year-ago $0.25; revenues rose 20% to $1.88 mln (i thought EMC revenue expectation would be higher then 20%

Compaq (CPQ 28 3/8 -2 5/8): Dan Niles of Robertson Stephens reiterated his "buy" rating and raised his price target from $40 to $45; FY00 EPS goes to $0.95 to $1.05... ABN Amro reiterated its "outperform" rating, but lowere FY00 EPS estimate from $1.19 to $1.13 per share due to guidance from the company for a higher-than-expected tax rate in 2000... DLJ is advising buy on weakness; says stock is an outperformer in 2000 and expects the shares to hit its $45 target within six months; doesn't see much downside below $30 and views CPQ as an excellent turnaround story in the face of a strong industry product cycle... All good comments, but investors weren't listening.
