Last year he said "as we look out from the mountaintop of the American Century..." implying that we are at the pinnacle, and can only go down. Indeed, the nuts topped that very day, and subsequently most of them had a 50% correction.

But several months later they went on to increase by another couple hundred per cent- so much for that indicator.

I hope that the speech is done in a breathless, euphoric tone... the more breathless and euphoric, the more likely that the topping process is reinforced. Let's hear a bold projection of paying off the public debt by 2006. Or a smug recollection of millions of [telemarketing and retail]jobs created by our ever-expanding economy. After all, we are Americans, the envy of the world.
