hello telcomguy, i think float means the number of shares not controlled by insiders not the number outstanding. if i am correct, this increases the float. regardless of terminology, until now 37%, that is about 500,000,000 shares of nortel were controlled essentially by Jean C. Monty, CEO of BCE and his board of directors. now, thousands of people will call their shots on their shares. some will sell for whatever personal reason, some big speculators like Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs will unwind their arbitages on BCE/NT. some fraction of those 1/2 billion shares will be sold, while before none were on the block. that is uncertainty, and wall street hates uncertainty. i am going to wait till the smoke clears. you are certainly correct that this has zero impact on nt's business outlook. someone on lu thread asserted that nt buys the optics for its OC-192 installations from lucent. i was astonished, and find it hard to believe. do you know anything about this, telcomguy? |
