Making a high performance X86 CPU with high MHz is not a secret to AMD and INTC. They both know how to do it. PIII architecture was designed over 5 years ago. K7 was designed in 1997-1998. Obviously K7 is better than PIII. K7 is the bar to beat. Willamete will do just that. It will beat it. If not then why continue with that project.
Willamete will have higher MHz and more schemes to execute instructions faster. In this game you can only take the lead for a while before your competitor passes you. But in the mean time just sit back and enjoy AMD for the rest of the year. The secret is that AMD can make 1.2GHz K7 on 0.18um.
