G'day all - I actually think mtnlady has a point. It has nothing to do with if Messr Monty is smart or not. Indeed, he is fulfilling his duties in maximizing shareholder values. BCE shareholders are rewarded with the spinoff. However, there are at least three categories of people who are into BCE/NT, namely, growth, value, hedging. For those who buy growth, Bell Canada is a drag. For those who buy value, BCE sans NT is ridiculously cheap. But the hedgers are the tie breaker. It is likely that they like the growth but don't want to pay the growth premium. If BCE and NT disengage, they may choose to sell BCE to lower the cost basis of NT - still a way to buy growth at a discount.

best, Bosco
