Mike,
Your are incorrect, check the US Department of Energy's website relative to its opinion on Methanol and its hazards. As well, if you get a chance, you may want to learn a little more about reforming methanol and its bi-products. A PEM running on methanol is not clean, hydrogen yes, methanol , no, however the hydrogen question still depends on the method of hydrogen production, in any event, you wont have to worry about hydrogen production for at least a few decades.
