L: You hit on a very interesting point. Last year's splits were viewed by some, as an attempt to get the stock price into a range to make it more available to smaller investors. Your comment: My guess is that Dr Jacobs knew precisley what a massive effect the expression "slowdown" would have on the stock price within minutes. They must have known and calculated the huge drop it would have caused.

Mr J. surely would have been very distressed at the reaction to the 4:1, if they were trying to get the stock price down into an 'available' level.

Perhaps this 'managing' of the results (above First Call and below Whisper) was a different path to the same goal: Accessible stock price.

Hmmm.... Crazy like a fox?

Fun speculation at any rate. The jury is out. Real good news would be around the corner if this scenario is correct.
