08:05 ET Dell (DELL) 40 3/8: --Update-- Bid at 38 9/16 in pre-market; as speculated, Dan Niles at Robertson Stephens, upgrades from "LT attractive" to "buy".

08:33 ET Dell Computer (DELL) 40 3/8: --Update-- Two firms downgrading today, SG Cowen goes from a "strong buy" to a "buy" and Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown goes from "strong buy" to "buy"; SG Cowen saying, although Dell has best business model relative to competitors, direct model simply doesn't drive as much of a competitive advantage (vs indirect) during periods of component tightness; they cut their price target from $55 to $45. Goldman Sachs maintains "recommended list" rating but reduces estimates -- FY00 now $0.68 from $0.73, FY01 now $0.90 from $1.00 due to slightly reduced units/revenue expectations.
