Or alternatively, once you discover your car was stolen, you dial an emergency phone number which calls your car's system, telling it to turn itself on.

The other alternative is once you lock the doors, if the car senses an intruder, it calls you. I think something like that already exists, but the possibilities are endless. Just look at what a selling point for Toyota or GM something like this would be. I'd bet you could get a significant discount on your car theft insurance rates, like having airbags and anti-lock brakes.
