Ron,

BEAS (www.beasys.com) is a fairly new (founded 1995?) company focused primarily on client/server middleware solutions, such as their Tuxedo offerings for database connectivity. Many of the major client/software companies (such as PeopleSoft PSFT) utilize BEAS software in their offerings. The new PeopleSoft (www.peoplesoft.com) Release 7 emphasizes BEAS technology for their new Internet offerings, so luck for an upturn on BEAS in the fall, if not sooner.

BMCS (www.bmc.com) has been around quite a while, since most of their core products are IBM mainframe based. They have a slew of offerings (over 100).

As far as competition, they do have some overlap, but not that much.
