Hi Everyone,

I thought this was the Newport thread.<G> Far be it from me to impose any thread discipline (Gary, that's your job, if you think it appropriate, since you started this one), but aren't we straying a bit off topic. We just had a NEWP earnings release and I thought it was quite positive. Operating earnings were up 60%! Newport seems very cheap to me at these levels. Unlike so many other small companies, it seems to have an excellent diversified customer base. Hence the company is much less exposed to risk of a delayed order by an important customer, which can result in the overnight mohawk haircut, which we see almost daily when those quarterly numbers don't work out.
I see a small company with almost limitless opportunities in an exploding field without the usual small company risks. How do others see it? Has anyone done any reality checking with NEWP management around Stuart Brorson's idea that NEWP is preparing a thrust in the optoelectronic packaging arena with its recent acquisition. What about analyst coverage and institutional support? Is anybody following this company yet?
