Alohal, here's a real world example of how wrong the Thompson's data can be.

I am now in the process of selling about 150,000 shares of a stock that has an average daily volume much, much smaller. The spread on the shares is sometimes as high as $1, rarely lower than ¬.

I have been selling in 5,000 and less blocks in between the bid and offer. I have also been selling in larger blocks within 1/16 of the offer. I have never advertised any size, because that would be foolish and would possibly tip off others that there is a large seller in the market. The market maker that is helping me work my order in many cases groups a bunch of retail orders together, then crosses them with me 1/16 under the posted offer. In the rare instance that there is a posted large block to buy, I hold back, becuase this is usually an inexperienced institution who will eventually pay more than he says.

I am th emain institutional presence in this stock, I have been a regular seller, and the Thompson's data only shows institutional buying. I have thus far moved about 40% of my shares.
