Matching of the loaded comma delimited text file containing your trade detail can be done in each stock by date and time using the sorting functions in the spreadsheet application.

I can get all the similar trades in consecutive rows (sort by symbol and date), but can't think of a way to sum the results for just that symbol and date without manual editing, though I'll bet there is a way.

Have any examples?

It really would be much easier if the data that Penson already has in the "email P&L report" were available in a form other than .pdf

I'd be happy to just purchase a program to handle the quicken output however as we have read Penson's data is created in a way that is faulty and also requires significant manual editing.

There is a program out there called "stocktax". I'm also planning to look into using that.
